Floating islets for birds in Alpaslan 2 Dam! (18-07-2024 - Muş)

Muş, Turkey: Alpaslan 2 Dam continues to be a safe nesting and breeding area for water birds within the scope of the "Floating Islets" project. Realised in 2022, the project is notable for being the first of its kind in Turkey.
The floating islets placed in the dam lake within the scope of the project offer an environment where waterfowl can comfortably stay and breed. With the use of floating islets, it is aimed to increase the population of water birds and enrich the biodiversity around the dam.
However, the stability problems of the platforms were an obstacle to the project. To solve this problem, a gravel grid system was placed on the rafts.
Another important benefit of the project is the possibility of bird watching. Bird watchers can visit the floating islets placed in the dam lake and observe the water birds that stay and breed here.
By visiting Alpaslan 2 Dam, you can see the floating islets and the water birds that stay here. You can count the birds by looking closely at the photographs and even watch them live if you are lucky.
Such projects are of great importance to protect nature and increase biodiversity. The "Floating Islets" project implemented at Alpaslan 2 Dam is a good example in this regard.
